delta a landform that forms at the mouth of a river where the river flows into another body of water
empire a group of states or countries ruled under a single authority
hieroglyphics a writing system invented in Egypt that used over 800 pictures to represent objects, actions, sounds, or ideas
mummification the process of preserving and embalming a dead body in preparation for the afterlife
papyrus a material prepared from the stem of a water plant that grew along the Nile River and was used in making sheets of paper to write on as well as to make rope, sandals, and boats
pharaoh a ruler in ancient Egypt
Rosetta Stone a stone tablet with inscriptions of the same decree (official message) written three ways: in Greek, Egyptian hieroglyphics and demotic characters.
silt fine sand, clay, or other material carried by running water and deposited as sediment which fertilizes the soil
social pyramid a representation of the social structure of Egypt showing the division of classes organized into a pyramid
unification the process of being united or made into a whole
