What is the "Red Scare"? The "Red Scare" was the cause of people being afraid of anarchists because of various things they did to try and overthrow the government.
What is the Five-Power Treaty? This treaty limited the size of nations navies and the treaty was the first time in modern history that world powers agreed to disarm.
What is the Kellog-Briand Pact? This Pact outlawed war.
What is the Eighteenth Amendment? This amendment established prohibition which banned manufacturing, selling, and transporting of liquor throughout the United States.
What is the Nineteenth Amendment? This Amendment guarantted women in all states the righ to vote.
What is the Emergency Quota Act? This law established a quota system which is an arrangement placing a limit on the number of immigrants from each country.
What is the Scopes trial? The trial was about a high school teacher that broke the law and taught evolution. Scopes got support of the Civil Liberties Union and won the case.

FDR is known for being president, he accomplished being elected president, helping the Great Depression greatly so the U.S. economy may recover, restored confidence in banks, created the new deal. He is important because he is president of the U.S.
What is John Steinbeck known for, accomplished, and/or why they are important? He is known for his powerful novel about farm families fleeing the dust bowl. He accomplished making that novel and making it a movie. He is important because he made people notice what life was like as a farmer in the dust bowl.
What is the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) The CCC provided jobs for young men to plant trees and build bridges.
What is the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA) It paid farmers not to grow certain crops.
What is the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). It insured savings accounts in banks approved by the government.
What is the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Punished dishonest stockbrockers and speculators.
What is the Social Security Act (SSA) and whom did it help? The SSA created a tax on workers and employers. That money provided monthly pensions for retired people. The SSA helped people with disabilities, the elderly poor, and children of parents who could not support them.
What is the Public Works Administration (PWA)? It built ports, schools, and aircraft carriers.
What is the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)? It built dams to provide cheap electric power to seven Southern states; set up
What is the Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA)? It gave relief to unemployed and needy.
What is a Hooverville? A Hooverville is a shantytown but is called a Hooverville because of president Hoovers failure to act. What is New Guinea?
What was the Bonus Army and what did they want? The Bonus Army was a large group of WW1 veterans. They wanted the $1,000 that the government said they would give them in 1945 but it was 1943.
What was the Dust Bowl and what caused it? The states that were most affected by the Dust Bowl were Western Kansas, Oklahoma, Northern Texas, Eastern Colorado, and New Mexico.
What types of radio programs were popular during the Great Depression? How did they get their name? Soap Operas became popular and they got their name because they were daytime dramas that were sponsored by laundry detergents. Also programs called Dick Tracy, The Love Ranger and Superman were famous. Also comedy shows got a lot of attention also.
How did the Great Depression affect African Americans? More than half of the African American population was unemployed and their jobs were taken by white people who lost theirs. What is the Great Depression? The Great Depression was an economic collapse of our economic system.
What does default mean? To fail to meet an obligation, especially a financial one.
What is a migrant worker? A person who moves from place to place to find work harvesting fruits and vegetables.
What is a fireside chat? It is when the president would sit beside his fireplace and talk through the radio. This helped restore confidence in banks
What is Black Thursday? It is the day when millions of shares were sold because of declining prices
What areas, and groups of people, were the hardest hit by the Great Depression? Why? African Americans Because they were a minority and already life was hard for them, then the Great Depression made it worse. Poor people were hit hard because they already did not have much money or supplies and the Great Depression just made it worse. Po
How did Hoover handle the Depression? He called on business leaders not to cut wages or production of goods and on charities to do their best for the needy. He also said that if citizens volunteered more and local governments would volunteer more is what would bring us through the Depression.
