Inequality Among The Classes Most of the people on the land do not get to vote, have education, and do all of the work to get everything for the upper class. While the higher class does not really give anything back.
3 Estates / The Old Regime Clergy, Nobility, Peasants. Had an absolute monarchy that did not educate people.
History Of Absolute Rule - Louis XVI Use a lot of money in wars and could not feed the Third class. Which started the revolution of France.
Bourgeoisie iIn 3rd Estate – Resented Unfair System These people realized the structure was not equal and rebelled.
Wasteful Spending - Deficit Spending Engaging in wars.
Enlightenment Ideas People wanted Liberty, Equality, Fraternity. What inspired the Revolution.
The Estates General Is an assembly that has different views or ideas from different people. This included the Peasants/Middle class. (Clergy, Nobles, Peasants)
The Cahiers These were books and items that had what the public liked, suggested, wanted, and thought were wrong.
The Tennis Court Oath The Third Estate agreement to keep working on the French Constitution until it’s done.
The Bastille – July 14, 1789 Crimes vs the king. It was made up of mostly people who didn't pay their taxes. It was stormed because the people thought it was unfair and cruel to put people in jail for taxes.
The National Assembly – Legislative Assembly Chose laws, presidents, whether or not to give people food, etc. A place that makes laws.
Declaration Of The Rights Of Man And Citizen Let all men be able to vote, have the same amount of land, and have the same rights as each other.
Limited Monarchy The Constitution gave rights, but as it was being developed the period in France was called a... The ruler had certain power.
Constitution - Reforms Introduced Happened as a result of the Third class receiving knowledge.
Liberty, Equality, Fraternity Everything was based on. Men and women were born equal.
Declaration Of The Rights Of Woman And Citizen Women were soon given the same rights as men a few years later after all men had the same rights.
Robespierre Killed and jailed many people who wanted a monarchy. Caused people terror on purpose. Period of Reign of Terror.
Jean-Paul Marat: “Friend Of The People” Went against the French monarchy and had a connection with The Jacobins.
Execution Of The Monarch Robespierre killed the monarch of France. As a result, it makes the revolution continue or get worse.
1st Republic This was a result of getting rid of the monarchy. This starts the French Revolution. During this time women went to the palace and fought the high power people, citizens flooded the Bastille and the monarchy was overthrown.
Sans Culottes People that wore long pants that wanted equality and a republic.
The Jacobins Wanted equal rights and to end Louis XIV monarchy.
The Guillotine A wooden machine that has a sharp blade that chops people’s heads off.
5 Man Directory Administrated group or oligarchy. It was a 2 house legislature chosen by male citizens that have massive amounts of land. This was a few people trying to be moderate after the Reign of Terror.
Still A Republic Equal rights, Republic, jobs based on Merit, voting for rights in the Nation Assembly, slavery was gone, National Anthem of the French was made/became popular, songs/dances were popular, schools overtook religion. (Not all though)
