Prefix Relate Color

Anatomy and Medical Terminology 1

PrefixMeaning
erythro- red Ex: erythrocyte = a mature red blood cell
leuko- white Ex: leukocoria = the appearance of a white pupil in the eye
lute- yellow Ex: lutein = yellow pigment in the corpus luteum
melan- black Ex: melanemia = presence of black granules in blood
purpur- purple Ex: purpura = a conditino in which skin lesions darken to purple
xantho- yellow Ex: xanthoma = a yellow nodule on the skin
