What is the purpose of Genre? Genre shapes how we approach scripture.
How do we know what God wants to tell us through the scripture? By understanding authorial intentions. EXAMPLE: "What did the author mean when He wrote this?"
What is Exegesis? To look at scripture from the authors lenses and its original meaning.
What is the goal of Exegesis? To ascertain the authors intended meaning
1st Creation Account Straightforward historical account; useful for answering a wide range of questions about God and the world. Including questions of natural history, biology, astronomy, etc. Poetic Rendering of basic truths that represent key propositions about God.
Poetic Structure Examples in the 1st Creation Account? 1. Light 2.Dome to separate waters 3.Land and vegetation 4.Lights (Sun, Moon, Stars) 5.Sky and water creatures 6.Land animals and humans 7. Sabbath rest
