fissure a linear crack in the skin
telangiectashia a tiny, red blood vessel lesion formed by the dilation of a group of blood vessels radiating from a central arteriole, most commonly on the face , neck, or chest (telos=end); also called spider angioma
petechia spot; reddish-brown, minute hemmorhagic spots on the skin that indicate bleeding tendency; a small purpura
neoplasm abnormal tissue that grows by more rapid than normal cellular proliferation
eruption appearance of a skin lesion
pruritis severe itching
suppuration production of prurulent matter (pus)
carbuncle a skin infection consisting of clusters of furuncles
gangrene tissue death associated with loss of blood supply
onychia inflammation of the fingernail or toenail
pediculosis infestation with lice that causes itching and dermatitis (pediculo=louse)
psoriasis inherited skin disease marked by red, itchy, scaly patches
scratch test a test in which a substance is applied through a scratch
debridement removal of dead tissue from a wound or burn site to promote healing and prevent infection
curettage cleaning; scraping a wound using a spoon-like cutting instrument called a curette; used for debridement
fulguration to lighten; use of long high-frequency, electric sparks to destroy tissue; the active electode does not touch the skin
lupus any various chronic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation of the skin and other tissues (lupus=wolf)
xeroderma dry skin
