Proximal Closer in the center. Proximal & Approximate come from the same word and mean close
Distal Father away from the center. Distal & Distant come from the same word and mean far
Lateral Out to the side
Medial Towards the middle Like the median in a highway
Anterior/Ventral The front The word ventral means "stomach"
Posterior/Dorsal The back a dorsal fin on a shark is on its back
Cranial towards the top "cranium"
Caudal Towards the bottom from Latin, for tail
PACU Post-anasthesia Care Unit
ICU Intensive Care Unit
Prone Lying down on belly
