What are the names of the organs in the urinary system? Kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra, renal pelvis
What are 8 functions of the kidneys? Filter and excrete wastes, regulate blood volume, BP, and osmolarity, regulates ions and pH, RBC production, active vitamin D, clear hormones and drugs from the blood, and gluconeogenesis
What are the major nitrogenous wastes? Ammonia, urea, uric acid, and creatinine
Identify the major nitrogenous wastes sources. (ammonia, urea, uric acid, creatinine) ???
Which one of the four nitrogenous wastes is most toxic? Ammonia
Which one of the four nitrogenous wastes forms crystals? (hint: Gout) Uric acid
What is creatinine and creatine phosphate? Creatinine is a break-down product of creatine phosphate in muscle, and is usually produced at a fairly constant rate by the body (depending on muscle mass). Creatine is the supplement people take to get strength and body cell mass.
What is uremia? A raised level in the blood of urea and other nitrogenous waste compounds that are normally eliminated by the kidneys.
What causes uremia? Uremia is caused by extreme and usually irreversible damage to your kidneys. (usually from CKD)
Define excretion. The process of removing wastes and excess water from the body
Identify the four physiological systems that excrete wastes. ???
