How are medications packaged for a leave of absence by a CRMA? | Each dosage of each medication is placed in its own envelop and labeled with the following: name of resident, name and strength of each drug, directions from the label, all cautionary info, CRMA signature and date packaged. |

How is a PRN medication administration documented on a paper MAR? | CRMA initials front of MAR, then completes the notes on the back of the MAR to include: date, time, medication, dosage, route, reason for administration, results, time of results, CRMA signature. |
How are holds or refusals documented on a paper MAR? | Circle CRMA initials on the front of the MAR, then complete the notes on the back of the MAR as to why the medication was not taken as prescribed. |
How do you transcribe a Discontinue on a paper MAR? | Draw a diagonal line from the last dose given to the end of the month, write D/C with date and time and signature or initials of the CRMA transcribing the D/C. Yellow highlight entire transcription. |

What is tardive dyskinesia? | A potentially permanent side effect of antipsychotic drugs that causes excessive, involuntary movements of the hands, face/tongue, and limbs. |
What are the details that must be included in a PRN psychotropic medication order? | Detailed behavior-specific instructions for administering, exact dosage, exact time frames between dosages, maximum dosage to be given in a 24 hour period. |
Do you need to notify the provider if a PRN psychotropic medication is administered? | Yes, within 24 hours unless otherwise stated in the order. |
What is the regulation if a PRN anti-psychotic medication is ordered? | Must be on a regularly scheduled dose in order to have the additional PRN anti-psychotic. |
Can a CRMA administer a breathing apparatus such as a hand-held bronchodilator, metered dose nebulizer, intermittent positive pressure breathing machine or oxygen machine? | Only with additional RN training |
Can a member be in the program without a CRMA if the member does not self-administer their own medications? | No, a CRMA must be on site if there are any PRN medications ordered. |
How long is the CRMA certificate valid for? | 2 years, then an 8 hour Recertification must be completed |
