Christianity | a monotheistic religion based in Judaism and founded by Jesus of Nazareth in the 1st century CE |
covenant (the) | A formal agreement between two or more people; in the Torah The Covenant refers to an agreement between God and the Ancient Israelites |
Five Pillars of Islam | Muslim code of moral behavior: (1) charity, (2) pray five times a day, (3) profession of faith, (4) fast during Ramadan, (5) Hajj |
Hebrew | the language of ancient Israelites and now the official language of Israel |
Holy Bible | the holy book of Christianity; contains the Old Testament which is the Torah, and the New Testament, which describes the life of Jesus and his disciples |
Holy Land | (n.) the area in the Middle East between the Jordan River and Mediterranean Sea where holy sites important to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, are located. This land is where Israel and Palestine are currently located. |
Jesus of Nazareth | founder of Christianity; considered to be the son of God by Christians |
Judaism | monotheistic religion which was the basis for both Christianity and Islam; Jewish people follow the Ten Commandments |
Koran (Qur'an) | the holy book of Islam |
Mecca | a city in current day Saudi Arabia, where Muslims go during their Hajj, a pilgrimage that they must take at least once in their life if they are able to |
