| 1st Degree burn | burn affecting only the epidermis or superficial layer of the skin |

| 4th degree burn | deep burn affecting not just all layers of the skin (epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous layer) but also underlying tissues like muscle, fascia, or bone |
