Why were many people "pushed" out of their lands? | Many people were “pushed” out because of climate changes, exhausted resources, earthquakes, volcanoes, droughts, unemployment, slavery, war, religious, ethic or political persecution. |
What would often occur when humans migrated to new lands? | When an abundance of people migrated to new lands, cultural blending of languages often occurred. |
What were the negative effects from migrating | There would often be clashes between groups which created unrest, persecution, and sometimes war. |
How did experts trace the movement of people? | One way experts traced the patterns of movement of people over time is by studying the spread of languages. |
Who made the greatest migrations and what did it do? | Early Africans made some of the greatest migrations in history. When they finished migrating, they populated the whole southern third of Africa. |
Who were the Bantu speakers? | The Bantu speakers were a group of people who shared cultural characteristics. |
Who did many experts believe the Bantu speakers were related to? | Experts believe that the Bantu speakers were related to the Nok peoples. |
Why did the Bantu speakers migrate so frequently? | Due to their farming technique, the Bantu speaking people were forced to migrate every few years. |
What farming technique did the Bantu speakers use? | The technique was called slash and burn. This is where a patch of a forest is cut down and burned, the ashes mixed into the soil creating a fertile area. |
What resulted to the population of West Africa increasing? | Experts found out that the Bantu speaking people developed agriculture, they were able to produce more food than they can obtain by hunting and gathering. This resulted in a increase of the population. |
What caused the Bantu speaking people to move south? | Due to the rising population, more food was required. The Bantu speaking people wanted to move north in search of land, but the lands were densely populated. Areas that were once savannas were now deserts. The only option was south. |
What type of technology did the Bantu speaking people bring with them ? | The Bantu-Speaking people brought iron smelting technology with them. Which would later influence the idea of iron smelting in the southern half of Africa. |
Why were the Mbutu and San people a problem to the Bantu speaking people? | When the Bantu speakers settled in an area, changes occurred. Some areas which the Bantu speakers moved into had people like the Mbutu and San. These people were not into agriculture, but instead hunting. |
Why were there many territorial wars? | As the Bantu speakers spread more south into the hunter-gatherer’s lands, territorial wars usually broke out. |
Who won between the Bantu speakers and the Mbuti and San people? | The Bantu speakers would win every time against the Mbuti and the San people because the Bantu speakers fought with iron-tipped spears, while the Mbuti and the San only had stone weapons. |
