democracy | rule of the people, by the people |
monarchy | rule by a king or queen |
myth | a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some being or hero, often explaining a practice, rite, or natural event |
oligarchy | rule by powerful elite members of society |
Olympians | the twelve Greek gods and goddesses who ruled from Mt. Olympus |
Olympics | greatest of the games or festivals of ancient Greece, held every four years in the plain of Olympia, in honor of Zeus |
Parthenon | temple built to honor the Greek goddess, Athena, that served as a central bank for the Greek city-states |
philosophy | the investigation of truths and principles based on logic |
polis | a city in Ancient Greece that functioned as an independent country |
temple | place of worship, dedicated to a specific god or goddess |
Trojan Horse | wooden replica built by the Greeks under the leadership of Odysseus; Greeks secretly hid inside as the Trojans pulled the giant structure inside the city walls |
