Variables In Specimen Quality

TermDefinitionPhysical Trait
QNS Quantity Not Sufficient; Inadequate specimen volume
Inadequate inversion Not mixed properly (8-10 times; exception light blue 3-4 times)
Icteric (Jaundice) specimen high amount of bilirubin serum/plasma will look green/brown
Lipemic specimen high amount of lipids serum/plasma will look "milky" or white
Hemolyzed specimen usually caused by the phlebotomist serum/plasma will have a red/pink tint
