| Inadequate inversion | Not mixed properly (8-10 times; exception light blue 3-4 times) | |
| Icteric (Jaundice) specimen | high amount of bilirubin | serum/plasma will look green/brown |
| Lipemic specimen | high amount of lipids | serum/plasma will look "milky" or white |
| Hemolyzed specimen | usually caused by the phlebotomist | serum/plasma will have a red/pink tint |
