Partial thromboplastin time (PTT); activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) Full tube; nonheparinized samples are stable at RT up to 4 hours; heparinized samples must be centrifuged within 1 hour and are stable up to 4 hours
Prothrombin time (PT) Full tube; stable at RT up to 24 hours
Differential (Diff) Make blood smear within 1 hour of collection
Cold agglutinins Must be kept at 37°C; no gel barrier tubes
Carbamazepine (Tegretol) No gel barrier tubes
Antibiotic assays (amikacin, gentamicin, theophylline, tobramycin, vancomycin) No gel barrier tubes

International normalized ratio (INR) Tube must be full

D-Dimer (D-DI) Tube must be full (stable for 4 hours)
Fibrin degradation product (FDP) Tube will only fill to 2 mL and should clot immediately
