The fall of the Western Roman Empire led to the Middle Ages or Medieval period. In what time period did the Middle gets take place? 500-1500 AD
What were the roots/ foundation of the Middle Ages or early Europe? The classical heritage of Rome and The beliefs of the roman church. Also the customs of various Germanic Tribes.
As a result of the constant invasions to the Western Roman Empire, many changes took place that impacted society and the way people lived. A whole new way of life developed. Name five changes that took place as a result of the constant invasions. Population Shifts, Loss of a common language, The decline of learning, Very Few people could read the languages or write them, Disruption of trade
What were monasteries? and Why were monasteries important to the early Middle Ages? Religious communities built by the church in order to adapt to rural conditions
Who was Charlemagne? Explain Charlemagne’s significance or importance to the Early Middle Ages? He was The Ruler of the Germanic Kingdoms
Define Feudalism A system of loyalties and protections based on mutual obligations.
List the social class structure of feudalism from top to bottom. Pope/King Lords Vassals Knights Serfs
What was a manor? and Explain the things that you would see on a typical manor A manor was a lord’s estate. You would see a house, a Serf and farmland.
How was the manor largely self-sufficient both militarily and economically A manor was self-sufficient, self-contained, and very isolated qay of life
Why did Medieval Peasants support the church? The Church offered unity, security, a social life, order in an unstable world, and the promise of eternal life.
Why was Henry's journey to Canossa a Political app? Confident that the pope would forgive him, Henry could then reclaim his throne and punish the nobles who betrayed him.
What political trend kept German states separate during the Middle Ages? The German kings’ continued wars with Italian cites and clashes with the pope prevented them from unifying.
