TermDefinition
industry The business of turning raw materials into manufactured good
capital (economic) Refers to money / cash or other assets owned by a business.
urbanization When there is a concentration of population in the city or urban areas.
assembly line Putting together certain pieces of a larger product using a conveyer built at different assembly stations to ensure a full product is made.
crop rotation The practice ofsquentially planting different crops on the same plot of land to improve soil health and to optimize nutrients in the soil.
entrepreneur A person who organizes and operates a business
raw materials Unprocessed material before goods are made out of them.
supply and demand The amount of product, or service available and the desire of buyers for it.
crop yield The amount of agricultural production harvested
bourgeoisie A social class defined as the middle or upper middle class.
textile Related to cloth or woven fabric.
sanitation Relating to public health, clean drinking water and adequate sewage disposal.
urban Another term meaning city or town.
demographics Relating to how the population is structured.
proletariat Refers to working-class people.
labor union Organization formed to protect and further the rights and interests of the working class.
cottage industry A system of production where goods and services are produced at home in small amounts.
Mass production Manufacturing large quanities of products using machines.
Factory system Many machines set up in large buildings where people went to work.
Enclosure movement Taking over and fencing off land that had once been shared by peasant farmers.
Migrating Moving from one area to live in a different area.
Livestock Farm animals
Agriculture Land used for farming.
laissez faire Idea that government should play as small a role as possible in economic affairs.
