CPR (BLS) First Aid
Driving Permit

| CPR Cardiopulmonary resuscitation | A combination of rescue breathing and chest compressions delivered to victims thought to be in cardiac arrest |
| MI Myocardial infarction | Blockage of a coronary artery that interrupts the flow of blood to the heart muscle |
| AED Automated external defibrillator | A portable device that checks the heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm |
| CVA Cerebrovascular accident | A stroke; hemorrhage in the brain |
| Trauma | Any injury, physical or mental |
| Hemaorrhage | Abnormal discharge of blood either internally or externally for any vessel |
| Diaphoresis | Profuse sweating |
| Shock | Drop in blood pressure, rapid and weak pulse, patient is a pale and clammy |
| Anaphylaxis | A hypersensitive reaction of the body to a foreign protein or drug, symptoms severe enough to cause shock or even death |
| Abrasion | An injury caused by rubbing or scraping off the skin |
| Avulsion | An injury in which a body structure is forcibly detatched |
| Laceration | A cut or tear |
| Compression | To exert force against, press |
| Insulin shock | A condition caused by excess insulin or lack of blood sugar |
| Diabetic ketoacidosis | A condition caused by too little insulin, leading to a build up of ketones in the blood. Can lead to diabetic coma or even death. |
| Aspirate | Take in by suction |
| Syncope | Fainting, a transient form of unconsciousness |
| Seizure | A sudden attack of pain, disease or certain symptoms |
