Directional Terms:
| Question | Answer |

| Anatomic Position | A person standing upright with arms at the sides, palms are forward |
| Midline | A line running from the nose through the navel, dividing the body into a right & left half. |
| Superior | Closer to the head. Also known as cephalic or cephalad. |
| Inferior | Closer to the feet. Also known as caudal or caudad |
| Anterior | Toward the front of the body. Also known as ventral. |
| Posterior | Toward the back of the body. Also known as Dorsal. |
| Planes | Flat surfaces of the body. |
| How many planes does the body have? | 3 (Sagittal, Frontal, Transverse) |
| Sagittal Plane | Oriented vertically & divides the body into right & left areas |
| Frontal plane | Oriented vertically & divides the body into anterior & posterior areas. Also known as the coronal plane. |
| Transverse plane | Oriented horizontally dividing the body into superior & inferior areas. Also known as the horizontal plane. |
| Coronal plane | Divides the body into anterior & posterior areas. Also known as the frontal plane. |
| Horizontal Plane | Oriented horizontally dividing the body into superior & inferior areas. Also known as a transverse plane. |
| Cephalic or Cephalad | Closer to the head. Also known as Superior. |
| Caudal or Caudad | Closer to the feet. Also known as Inferior. |
| Ventral | Toward the front of the body. Also known as Anterior. |
