| evacuated | withdrawal; to remove; to make empty |
| extinguishers | a device for putting out fire |
| hazards | dangers; risks |
| high-power field (hpf) | refers to the field of view under the maximum magnification power of the objective lens being used. |
| low-power-field (lpf) | covers a wide field of view and are useful for examining large specimens or surveying many smaller specimens. |
| magnify | to make something look larger than it really is |
| minute | very small, tiny |
| monocular | possessing a single eyepiece as with a microscope |
| objectives | a lens or series of lenses |

| quality assurance (QA) | inclusive policies, procedures and practices as standards for reliable laboratory results |
| quality control (QC) | inclusive laboratory procedures as standards to provide reliable performance of equipment |
| stage | a platform that has two clips that hold the specimen slide to be viewed |
| waived | laboratory testing that is simple in nature and nonthreatening to the patient if performed or interpreted incorrectly |
