Tillage chapter 12

TermDefinition
crop rotation when different crops are lantedin a defined sequence. This prevents a build up of pests and diseases. It also encourages nutricient management
direct control when the chemical is used to kill the weed, pest, or fungi.
indirect control the chemical does not kill the weed or pest, but discourages their growth.
biological control to use a living organism to contain/control or kill the pest causing a problem ie. ladybird and the aphet.
herbicide a chemical that kills only weeds and other plants. They can be non selective or selective.
pesticide a chemical that kills only pests , insects or rats usually.
fungicide a chemical that only kills or inhibits that growth of a fungi.
the plough used to break up and turn soil usually for seed bed preperation.
organic farming does not allow the use of genetically modified crops or organophosphates ie. main herbidies, pesticides and fungicides.
