| chief complaint (CC) | brief description of the reason for a patients visit |
| clinical diagnosis | indication of a disease by history, laboratory findings, and symptoms |
| emergent | arising suddenly and unexpectedly |
| familial | pertaining to the same family |
| genogram | a graph of family health history |
| interview | a meeting between two people where one asks questions of another |
| objective | information or symptoms that can be observed such as vital signs, exam findings, lab results etc. |
| over-the-counter (OTC) | referring to accessible, non prescription drugs |
| patronizing | treating condescendingly |
| prioritizing | arranging in order of importance |
| remedies | anything that relieves or cures a disease |
| screening | a preliminary or indicating procedure |
| subjective | information supplied by the patient that includes past personal history, medical history, and routine information |
| symptoms | any perceptible change in the body or its function that indicates disease or the phase of the disease |
