anaphylaxis a severe and rapid multi-system allergic reaction
avulsion an injury in which a body structure is forcibly detached
chemical a simple or compound substance used in chemical processes
cravat a triangular bandage, folded lengthwise; it may be used as a circular, figure-eight, or spiral bandage to control bleeding or to tie splints in place
electrical charged with electricity; run by electricity
foreign body anything that is not normally found in the location; usually refers to dirt, splinters, and so on
friction resistance of one surface to the motion of another surface rubbing over it
immobilize to keep out of action or circulation; make stationary
incision cut
laceration to cut or tear
molten melted
puncture a hole made by something pointed
rabies an acute viral disease of the nervous system of warm-blooded animals; usually transmitted by the bite of a rabid animal
R.I.C.E. abbrev. for Rest ,Ice, Compression, Elevation, referring to the treatment for sprains and strains
shock a condition in which the pulse becomes rapid and weak, the blood pressure drops, and the patient is pale and clammy
splinter a thin, sharp piece of wood
superficial on the surface
thermal characterized by heat; heat activated
wound an injury to living tissue, especially and injury involving a cut or break in the skin
