All you need to know about Athens and Sparta.

How would the ability to own weapons change the outlook of ordinary citizens? : individual citizens would tend to feel more confident and personally responsible for defending the city states. They might even demand a share in government themselves.

Helots= a peasant who is bound to the land (had to work the land) o every year the Messenians had to give half their crops to Spartans
What age boys did Sparta start training? 7 and trained till 30
Draco’s law code favored rich which caused a rift between rich and poor
Solan's reform  1. Any citizen could bring charges against wrong-doers  2. Citizens could participate and debate policies in the Athenian Assembly
Cleisthenes reform  1. He worked to make Athens a full Democracy (power of the ppl) by reorganizing the Assembly to break up the power of the nobility  2. Also created the council of 500 This proposed laws and counseled Assembly
