24 hour urine collecting urine for 24 consecutive hours
24 hour urine procedure throw away first void and start clock collect all urine in large jug for next 24 hours keep jug refrigerated/on ice
clean catch/midstream urine procedure if women, spread labia and keep spread clean antiseptic wipes patient first urinates into toilet middle part of urine stream is collected
random urine (u/a) procedure catch urine in clean container, pour into specimen cup
stool specimen procedure catch stool in clean container, must not be contaminated with urine, take sample from 2 separate places on the stool
sputum sample procedure rinse mouth with water only (NO mouthwash), take deep breaths cough sputum into specimen cup best collected first thing in AM. Sputum is NOT same as saliva!
