| Colony | a geographical area controlled by a distant country |
| Delegate | a person appointed or elected to represent others |
| Loyalist | A person who supported the British Crown instead of an independent America. |
| Militia | civilians trained as soldiers, not part of the regular army |
| Minuteman | an American militiaman prior to and during the American Revolution |
| Parliament | a legislative assembly in certain countries |
| Quarter | provide housing for military personnel |
| Redcoats | British soldier; so-called because of his red coat |
| Revolution | the overthrow of a government by those who are governed |
| Tariff | a government tax on imports or exports |
| Taxation | charge against a citizen's person or property or activity |
