How and who did the Song and Yuan Dynasty hire as government officials?

QuestionAnswer
What personality traits was a person expected to develop if they studied Confucianism? People expected to be rational, moral, and able to maintain order.
What changes did the Song Dynasty make to the process of taking the CSE to prevent cheating? Prevent cheating by locking candidates in a small room for several days. In addition, an examination moderator would take the test form from a candidate and copy their answer then give it to the person scoring it (hide candidates identity).
What policy change did the Song Dynasty make which made taking the CSE more equitable? Created a system of state- supported (funded) schools, now even the lower-classes could attend go to school.
What were tasks one had to complete when taking the test? Candidates had to write essays and poetry reflecting solutions to political and social problems using ideas within Confucianism.
If a candidate passed the test what were the next steps in becoming a government official? The candidate who have to wait a few years to get a position. Then move away from their hometown to ensure they make fair decisions (not ones that favored family or friends).
How long did a government official have to work to get promoted? Essentially, people worked for three years before being promoted.
Why did people want to be government officials? People wanted to be a government official to gain respect, and enjoy privileges such as not paying taxes or being exempt from military service (did not have to fight in the army).
Why did Kublai Khan end the system of civil service exams? Kublai Khan believed that Confucian learning was not needed for government jobs, and he did not want to rely on the Chinese to run his government.
Who were the government officials during the Yuan Dynasty? Kublai Khan picked his relatives, other Mongols, and other foreigners.
What jobs did Chinese scholars do for the government under Mongols rule? They were as teachers and minor government officials.
