Who did the Tang Dynasty choose as government officials

QuestionAnswer
Which dynasty started the civil service exam? The Tang Dynasty continue the practice. The Han Dynasty.
What content did a person need to be knowledgable about to pass the civil service exam? A candidate needed to know about Confucianism, Chinese classics, poetry, and legal and administrative issues.
What is a bureaucracy? A large group of people who help run and manage the government.
What are some jobs that government officials do for the emperor? Tax collector, supervise building projects (bridges, roads, government buildings), irrigation projects (structures that provide water to the citizens)
What is the aristocracy? The wealthy class of people within a country.
Why did the aristocracy tend to pass the test more than other people? well educated, had money for tutors and books; familiar with the tasks of government officials because forefathers were officials
What were traditional REASONS and METHODS the aristocracy got the government official jobs? a person could be taught the skills required to do the job properly from a relative who held a government job; personal recommendation; marrying into the imperial family
Another benefit, in addition to having money to pay for books and tutors, of being rich in term of being prepared to pass the exam. Sons in wealthy families had time to study verses working for a living to survive.
What group of people were created as a result of the civil service exam? A scholar-official class.
