What are the goals of the Nazi Party? Eliminate Jews, 3rd Reich would last for 1000 years, Lebenscraum, destroy communism.
What were Hitler's beliefs? Germany must be powerful again, Jews are the problem/Aryan's are superior, Treaty of Versailles must be rejected.
Which groups were targeted during the holocaust? Jews, communists, gypsies, poles, political dissidents, slovic people, Jehovah witnesses, homosexuals, Priests/Ministers, Mentally and Physically disabled.
Explain how Jews were persecuted. World became smaller, Nuremberg Laws, Businesses closed, no law/medicine could be taught, no school, "J" must be on passport, no radio, must wear star of David.
What was life like in the ghettos? Walled of neighborhoods, 1000's, little food, disease, cramped, death, over time emptied, Jews went to death camps.
What was deportation like/be able to explain the journey and the conditions in the cattle cars? 15 min to pack a suitcase and report to the train station, 80-100 were packed into one car, no light, food, toilet, little water, smell of death, urine, and vomit, screaming and crying, hot summer/cold winter.
Explain was life was like in the concentration camps. Housed undesirables, barracks, roll call daily, hard labor, starvation, shootings constantly, separated families, death camps.
Who were the Kapos? Describe their role and how they were treated. They were selected Jews in charge of other prisoners and they were treated with special treatment. they didn't have to do the hard labor and they got special privledges.
Who were the Sonderkommandos? Describe their role and how they were chosen. They were chosen randomly every 3 months and they Jews in charge of death. They worked in the chambers and crematoria and disposed of the bodies after they were dead. The workers got special treatment
What was the symbol of the Nazi party? Swastika.
Explain what occurred in the initial selection. Luggage was taken, families were separated, old and weak people went to the gas chamber, they were separated by gender, and the skilled workers went to work for the Nazi's.
Explain what occurred in the daily selection. Camp doctor would decide who lives and dies, flick the wrist, nod head, the randomly selected would be sent to the gas chamber.
Explain the processing process once you were selected at the camps. "Showers", Nazi guards would pour poison in the gas chamber, people died in 15 minutes, slow and painful choke to death.
Why did Hitler target Jews? He used them as a scapegoat for the problems in Germany. Economic and racial superiority.
Give examples and describe what Jewish resistance looked like during the holocaust. Freddie Oversteegen -lured Nazi's into the woods for them to she shot and killed -Shot Nazi's in her bike with her sister -made herself look younger so she wouldn't be suspected -part of the Harlem resistance group.
What happened once the camps were liberated? Once the camps were liberated the prisoners were freed. the Nazi's tried to destroy all evidence. Blow up the buildings, final death march to evacuate the camp, final executions,
