| hereditary | it runs in the family |
| percussion | to hit something and listen to the resulting sound or feel for resulting vibration |
| palpation | to feel |
| differential diagnosis | a list of conditions the patient may have based on symptoms exhibited and results of the exam |
| etiology | the cause |
| remission | to get better or improve. does NOT mean cured. |
| idiopathic | no known cause, it just happens |
| occult | hidden |
| lesion | diseased tissue |
| sequelae | a problem resulting from disease or injury |
| prophylaxis | preventive treatment |
| palliative | treat the symptoms, but not get rid of the problem |
| ventral/antral/anterior | front / stomach |
| dorsal/ posterior | the back |
| caudal | toward the bottom |
| ipsilateral | same side |
