phloem | transports food in plants |
xylem | transports water and minerals up the stem to the leaves |
diffusion | movement of a substance from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. |
osmosis | movement of water through a semi-permeable membrane from an area of high concentration to an area of lower concentration. |
active transport | the type of transport that uses energy to move substances from one area to the next. |
solute | the solid part of a solution that dissolves |
solvent | the liquid part of a solution that dissolves the solute |
