Plant Transport

| adhesion | a force of attraction between unlike molecules |
| cohesion | a force of attraction between like molecules |
| capillary attraction | the tendency of water to rise up a thin tube |
| transpiration | the process by which plants lose water to the atmosphere through their leaves. |
| stomata | pores in the leaves |
| guard cells | cells that control the stomata |
| source | place where the material is produced |
| sink | the part of the plant where a substance is stored |
| stoma | the singular form of the word stomata |
| phloem | transports food in plants |
| xylem | transports water and minerals up the stem to the leaves |
| diffusion | movement of a substance from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. |
| osmosis | movement of water through a semi-permeable membrane from an area of high concentration to an area of lower concentration. |
| active transport | the type of transport that uses energy to move substances from one area to the next. |
| solute | the solid part of a solution that dissolves |
| solvent | the liquid part of a solution that dissolves the solute |
