| Religion | A system of beliefs that give order to life by showing people priorities and direct behavior to follow in order to achieve such priorities. |
| Secularism | Indifference / rejection to religion. |
| Monotheistic Religion | Religions which follow one god. |
| Polytheistic Religion | Religions which follow many gods. |
| Animistic Religions | Traditional or indigenous religions in which animals or objects are important. |
| Universalizing Religions | A religion which followers wish to spread and seek converts. |
| Ethnic Religion | A religion people are born in to; does not seek converts. |
| Hinduism | Religion based upon many beliefs, such as karma and reincarnation. |
| Caste System | Advanced social hierarchy in which people are born into different tiers of the hierarchy. |
| Buddhism | Religion based upon people reaching enlightenment by following the middle path. |
| Shintoism | Religion native to Japan, which focuses on nature and ancestor worship. |
| Feng Shui | Chinese art and science relating to the placement and orientation of tombs, dwellings, buildings, and cities. |
| Confucianism | Religion based upon the drawings of Confucius, values benevolence, loyalty, and diligence. |
| Judaism | Religion based off one God who had revealed himself to and entered a covenant with Abraham. |
| Diaspora | Dispersal of people from their homeland, can be voluntary or forced. |
| Christianity | Religion based on the belief that Jesus was born as the son of god, was crucified, and was resurrected to atone for people's sins. |
| Roman Catholic Church | One of the three major branches of Christianity. |
| Eastern Orthodox Church | One of the three major branches of Christianity. |
| Protestant | One of the three major branches of Christianity. |
| Islam | Religion based on the believe in one God who had revealed himself to the prophet Muhammad. Hearth in Mecca and Medina. |
| Sunni | Sect of Islam which believes that Muhammad's successor did not need to be a blood relative to him. |
| Shi'ite | Sect of Islam which believes that Muhammad's successor did need to be a blood relative to him. Found in and around Iran. |
| Indigenous Religions | Religions practiced and traditionally passed from generation to generation among people within an ingenious tribe or group. |
| Sacred Sites | A place which holds important religious or spiritual meaning. |
| Hajj | Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca. |
| Interfaith Boundaries | Boundaries between the major faiths of the world. |
| Intrafaith Boundaries | Boundaries between sects of major faiths. |
| Religious Fundamentalism | Religious movement whose objectives are to return to the foundations of their faith and influence political policy. |
| Religious Extremism | Religious fundamentalism which is taken to the point of violence. |
| Jihad | Represents the personal or collective struggle of Muslims to live up to the standards of their holy book, the Qu'ran. |
