What inspired various revolutions around the world? The American Revolution, and its successful establishment of a republic, the United States of America, was a model and inspiration for a number of the revolutions that followed.
What encouraged the development of systems of government and various ideologies in the 19th century? Discontent with monarchist and imperial rule encouraged the development of systems of government and various ideologies, including democracy and 19th-century liberalism.
What is the difference between Liberalism in the 19th century and today? Liberalism then is the opposite of today. Conservatives then wanted more control; today conservatives call for more freedom. Liberals today advocate more government.
Why was the American Revolution such a surprise to the rest of the world? The American Revolution was surprising in that the English colonies were the freest and most prosperous people on earth.
How were the colonies ruled before the American Revolution? The colonies had been loosely governed by England; after the French and Indian War (Seven Years’ War) England tightened control and tried to increase taxes.
When was independence declared in the colonies? Colonists pushed back against British rule leading to several clashes. They finally declared independence 1776.
What helped to increase the US changes of independence? British armies were more powerful but Washington and other generals won important victories, and French help increased US chances.

Who was the "George Washington" of Latin America? Bolivar is considered the “George Washington” of Latin America. He also pondered whether Latin Americans were ready for self-government.
