Renaissance, Reformation, and Revolution

| Reformation | religious movement marked ultimately by rejection or modification of some Roman Catholic doctrine and establishment of the Protestant churches |
| Guilds | group of craftsmen or merchants formed for mutual aid and protection and for the furtherance of their professional interests |
| Michelangelo | Painter, sculptor, and architect of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Among many achievements in a life of nearly ninety years including sculptor of David |
| Da Vinci | Versatile genius painter, engineer, musician, and scientist, filled notebooks with engineering and scientific observations that were in some cases centuries ahead of their time |
| Botticelli | painter of mythological and religious paintings throughout the Renaissance period |
| Realism | the accurate, detailed, unembellished depiction of nature or of contemporary life, rejects imaginative idealization |
| Indulgences | a distinctive feature of the penitential system of both the Western medieval and the Roman Catholic Church that granted full or partial remission of the punishment of sin |

| Newton | scientist and mathematician who notably discovered gravity |
