Human impact vocab

TermDefinition
acid rain Precipitation created when pollution and water vapor mix.
emissions Gases released by vehicles when their engines are running.
eutrophication A process that occurs when algae feed off fertilizers and quickly multiply in a body of water, cutting off oxygen and killing marine life.
ozone A type of pollution that is created when smog reacts with sunlight and that may cause severe health problems for some people.
terraces Flat areas that are cut into the side of hills and are used for growing crops.
conservation The protection of resources, such as water, energy, or soil.
legislation A law passed by a government.
rationing Limiting the use of a resource, especially when there is not enough of it to meet everyone's needs.
sustainability Meeting present needs while also maintaining resources for future needs.
