| Term | Definition |

| democracy | a system of government determined by all the eligible voters |
| capitalism | an economic system in which trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit |
| socialism | a government and economic system in which trade and industry are regulated by the community, and some are owned by the government (still some private property) |
| communism | a government and economic system in which there is no private property and all economic decisions are made by the government (AKA Marxism) |
| sovereignty | the power to rule over a population |
| autonomy | the right of people to rule themselves |
| colonialism | the act of taking territory outside a country's borders |
| infrastructure | the basic things (roads, electricity, water supply, etc...) that a society needs in order to function |
| globalization | increasing interdependence/interconnectedness of economies and cultures |
| United Nations | an international organization of 193 countries formed to promote peace, security, and cooperation |
| GDP | Gross Domestic Product; the total value of goods and services produced in a country. |
| anarchy | the absence of a system of government |
| fascism | a governmental system led by a dictator who emphasizes aggression, nationalism, and racism |
| liberalism | a political ideology that emphasizes free enterprise, civil rights, and social change |
| conservatism | a political ideology that emphasizes free enterprise and socially traditional ideas. |
