Key Health and Safety Definitions

TermDefinition
Hazard Anything that can cause harm.
Risk The chance, high or low, that somebody will get/be harmed by a hazard.
Risk Assessment An evaluation as to what the risks are and whether precautions are adequate or more should be done.
Accident An unfortunate incident that unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury
Injury An instance of being harmed
Biological Bacteria, viruses, animals, and humans etc
Chemical depends on the physical, chemical and toxic properties of the chemical
Ergonomic repetitive movements improper set up of workstation, etc
Physical Radiation, magnetic fields, pressure extremes (high pressure or vacuum), noise, etc
Phychoscocial stress, voilence, etc
Safety slipping/tripping hazards, inappropriate machine guarding, equipment or breakdowns
