Positional and Directional Terms

Anterior (ventral) front side of the body
Posterior (dorsal) back side of the body
Deep away from the surface
Superficial on the surface
Proximal near a point of attachment
Distal far from point of attachment
Inferior below another structure
Superior above another structure
Medial pertaining to the middle
Lateral pertaining to the side
Supine facing up (laying on back)
Prone facing down (laying on stomach)
