Regions and Quadrants

TermDefinition
Right/Left Hypochondriac Region upper region BELOW the cartilage of the ribs
Epigastric Region ABOVE the stomach
Right/Left Lumbar Region middle region near the WAIST
Umbilical Region near the bellybutton (naval) or umbilicus
Right/Left Inguinal NEAR the groin (on the side)
Hypogastric Region BELOW the umbilical region (BELOW the stomach)
Right Upper Quadrant (RUQ) contains the liver, gallbladder, part of the pancreas, parts of sm/lg intestines
Left Upper Quadrant (LUQ) contains the liver, stomach, spleen, part of the pancreas, parts of sm/lg intestines
Right Lower Quadrant (RLQ) parts of sm/lg intestines, right ovary and fallopian tube (female), appendix, right ureter
Left Lower Quadrant (LLQ) parts of sm/lg intestines, left ovary and fallopian tube (female), left ureter
