| Renaissance | the marking of the beginning of the modern world, which influenced painting, sculpture, and architecture; means "rebirth |
| Humanism | any system of thought or action in which human interests, values, and dignity predominate |
| Renaissance Man | a person who has wide interests and is knowledgeable in several areas |
| Patron | a person chosen, named, or honored as a special guardian, protector, or supporter (the leader) |
| Realism | a fact or the truth |
| Protestant | any Western Christian who is not an adherent of a Catholic or Eastern Church |
| Reformation | the religious movement in the 16th century that had for its object the reform of the Roman Catholic Church, and that led to the establishment of the Protestant churches. |

| Indulgences | the full or partial remission of temporal punishment due for sins which have already been forgiven in a Catholic Church |
| Heretic | a professed believer who maintains religious opinions contrary to those accepted by his or her church |
