What is the main basis for the Jewish belief system? Jews believe in one God (monotheism);
What is the first book of the Bible (the Torah)? the book of Genesis begins with creation (story of Adam/Eve and “fall”).
When did the Fall of man happen in the Bible (the Torah)? The book Genesis, with Adam/Eve.
What did Noah do in the Bible (the Torah) that was so important? Noah rescued his family from the flood.
What was the roll of Abraham and when was he called to do this by God? Abraham 2000 BC was chosen by God to be a blessing to all nations.
What did Moses do in the Bible (the Torah)? Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and gave them the Law (including the 10 commandments).
What is the name of the religion of the Jewish people? Judaism
Who is was the book of "Judges" based on? Samson (Judges)
When did Judges (Samson) rule? Judges (e.g., Samson) ruled for a time until the kingdom was established under David (about 1000 BC; famous for killing Goliath).
Who first established the kingdom that Judges (Samson) ruled over? King David (David)
What are important points about the kingdom under Judges? The kingdom was divided;
What did the prophets do to show their anger for straying from God in Judges? prophets (like Isaiah) rebuked Israel for straying from God and promised blessings if they would return.
How did God judge Israel for straying from Him? God judged Israel by allowing the Assyrians 722 BC and then the Babylonians 586 BC to conquer them and take many of them into exile (story of Daniel).
When were some of God's people from Israel allowed to return to His blessings and kingdom? Some were permitted to return late 500s/early 400s.
Who dominated Israel (during the Story of Esther)? And who dominated Israel after that? Israel was dominated by Persia (story of Esther), Greece, and Rome.
Where did the Israel populations go and why? Israel was dispersed to many places after the disaster of Masada about AD/CE 70.
Where did Jews worship? Jews worshipped at a major temple in Jerusalem and gathered in local synagogues for prayer.
List some of the Jewish holidays. The Sabbath, Chanukah, and Passover are some of their holidays/festivals.
What is the name of the Jewish holy book? Their holy book is the Torah/TANAK.
