Terminology and Concepts of the Spa Industry

| Safety | nonslip walking surfaces, grip bars, nonslip shoes/sandles, secure long hair, sanitize, good ventilation |
| Balneology | the art and science of bathing for therapeutic and relaxation purposes |
| Heat Transfer | occurs by conduction and convection in water |
| Conduction | heat is transferred in stationy water |
| Convection | heat is transferred in moving or agitated water |
| Buoyancy | an upward thrust or force that pushes against submerged or partially submerged objects in the direction opposite to the force of gravity |
| Density | a measurement of mass within a unit of space or unit of volume |
