Terms used to describe the Lower Extremity & its parts

| Groin | Area between thigh and abdomen; inguinal |
| Pubic | Genital area over the pubic symphysis |
| Coxal | Hip |
| Femoral | Thigh; between the hip and knee |
| Patellar | Kneecap |
| Popliteal | Posterior knee |
| Crural | Leg; between the knee and ankle |
| Sural | Posterior leg; means pertaining to the calf |
| Tarsal | Ankle |
| Pedal | Foot or feet |
| Calcaneal | Heel |
| Dorsum | Top of foot |
| Plantar | Bottom or sole of foot; volar means pertaining to the sole of the foot |
| Hallux | Great toe |
| Digital | Toes or fingers; phalangeal means pertaining to the toes or fingers |
| ILIUM | Latin for Flank; the superior pelvic bones. They resemble a broad, expanding blade |
| ISCHIUM | the inferior and posterior pelvic bone. These bones are also called the sitz bones |
| PUBIS | the anterior pelvic bone |
| FEMUR | Latin for Thigh, it is the longest, heaviest, and strongest bone in the body |
| PATELLA | the kneecap. It is the largest sesamoid bone in the body |
| TIBIA | the medial leg bone |
| FIBULA | the lateral leg bone |
| TARSALS | located in the proximal foot between the leg bones (tibia and fibula) and the metatarsals |
| METATARSALS | located in the distal foot and numbered I through V starting with the great toe |
| PHALANGES | located in the fingers/toes. They are also called the digits |
