Vocabulary for Industrial Revolution Unit.

Enclosure Process in which landowners took over and combined lands formerly shared by peasant farmers.
Crop Rotation The practice of planting different crops during different years in the same field.
Yield Amount of goods produced
Natural Resources Items that come from the earth-- water, wood, oil
Capital Money used to invest in businesses or goods used to produce other goods (machines used to produce cloth)
Entreprenuers People who ran and took the financial risk for new businesses
Cottage Industry Process in which goods are made in homes (not factories)
Urbanization The movement of people to the cities for jobs in factories
Tenements Apartment building were the factory workers lived (slums)
Labor Unions Groups that worked for worker's rights on the job
Industrialization Development of using the factory system to produce goods
Socialism Economic system in which the people as a whole own the means of production -- farms, factories, railways, and other businesses that produce and distribute goods
Proletariat The working class, have-nots
