What is Domino Theory? US belief that what happens in one country will then spread to the countries around it.
What was the purpose of "The Cultural Revolution"? It was a way to modernize China's culture and find enemies of communism.
How did communism come to China? There was a civil war between those who wanted democracy and those who wanted communism.
Why did the US support both South Korea and South Vietnam? To prevent them from becoming communist countries.
Why was India partitioned at the time of independence? Muslims and Hindus in the country were fighting over who would be in control of the government.
Why is Mao Zedong important for China? He led them to become a communist country.
Who was Ho Chi Minh? Nationalist leader of Vietnam
What was the US plan to keep communism from spreading? Containment of Communism
Who implemented the "Great Leap Forward" in China? Mao Zedong
Which European country colonized Vietnam? France
What happened between the US and Japan AFTER WW2? The US helped rebuild Japan to create a democratic ally in East Asia.
Who implemented the "Cultural Revolution"? Mao Zedong
What is the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone)? An area separating North and South Korea to prevent war from re-starting.
What was the purpose of "The Great Leap Forward"? It was an attempt to modernize the economy of China and improve production.
Why did France give Vietnam independence from colonization? Ho Chi Minh and his supporters fought a rebellion with France.
What countries helped North Korea and North Vietnam become communist countries? Soviet Union and China.
What was the impact of "The Cultural Revolution" in China? Educated people were punished as 'enemies' of communism. Many were killed, imprisoned, or fled the country. As a result, GDP went down because of lack of education.
What is the importance of Gandhi for India? He led the country to peaceful independence from the British.
How did the Korean War begin? North Korea invaded South Korea
What happened to North and South Vietnam after the US left the Vietnam war? North Vietnam won and created one united Vietnam as a communist country.
Who was the leader of China following Mao Zedong's death? Deng Xiopeng
How are Gandhi and Ho Chi Minh similar? Both led their countries to independence from a colonizer.
How are Gandhi and Ho Chi Minh different? Gandhi used peaceful methods to gain independence; Ho Chi Minh used violent resistance.
