Lab test 1

Most common tests & their main functions

CBC Evaluate overall health; help detect some disorders, including anemia, infection and leukemia
Blood typing Help safely donate blood or receive a blood transfusion
Electrolyte test Determine an electrolyte imbalance
ABG Check how well the lungs are able to get oxygen and remove carbon dioxide
CXR Among the first procedures to check for suspected heart or lung diseases
Ultrasound scan Help diagnose causes of pain, swelling in internal organs; to examine the fetus; to guide biopsies, diagnose heart conditions, etc
Urinalysis Test the urine to detect and manage many disorders, such as urinary tract infections, kidney disease and diabetes
Culture tests Check for the presence of an infection; to detect and identify bacteria or yeast in the biospecimen
CT scan, MRI Diagnose muscle & bone disorders; pinpoint a tumor, infection or blood clot; guide procedures; detect internal injuries & bleeding
