Events leading to the Revolutionary War vocabulary

Parliament Britain's law making assembly/group
Stamp Act tax on printed materials in the colonies, such as documents, newspapers and playing cards
repeal cancel
Sons of Liberty group of men that led protest against the new taxes
Townshend Acts tax on imported good, paper, wool, tea and other goods that the colonies imported from Britain
tariff tax
boycott refusal to buy goods
Daughters of Liberty group of women that worked on ways to help the colonies boycott British goods. They created their own tea and learned how to weave cloth to make their own clothing.
Committee of Correspondence groups of colonists formed in the 1770's to spread news quickly about protests against the British
Tea Act new law stating that one British company would be the ONLY company allowed to sell tea to the colonies
Patriots colonists who opposed British rule
Loyalists colonists who remained loyal to the King
militias volunteer armies
minutemen militia group that could be ready to battle at a minutes notice
Intolerable Acts laws passed by the British Parliament to punish the colonists after the Boston Tea Party
