HIPAA-Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996

HIPAA Legislation that includes Title II; the first parameters are designed to protect the privacy and security of patient information.
HIPAA defines fraud as an intentional deception of misrepresentation.
What is confidentiality? The right of an individual to have personal, identifiable information kept private, except by covered entities.
Compliance Regulation Most billing related cases are based on HIPAA and the False Claims Act.
Final Rule Strengthens, modernizes, and makes the HIPAA ruling around privacy, security, breach, notification, and penalties more effective.
Privacy Rule A HIPAA rule that establishes protections for the privacy of individual's health information.
Title II Prevents health care fraud and abuse; Medical Liability Reform; Administrative simplification that requires establishment of national standard for electronic health care transactions and national identifiers for providers, employees, and insurance plans.
