Commandments and Beatitudes

TermDefinition
Commandment An important rule handed down by God to Moses.
Decalogue The Ten Commandments (literally, ten words) given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai.
Law A rule of conduct established by a community to regulate the actions and behaviours of its members.
Rules A statement which regulates what you are allowed to do or not allowed to do.
Torah The first 5 books of the Bible are known as the Torah,the 5 books of Moses or the Pentateuch. These 5 books are the body of Jewish religious literature, law, and teaching as contained chiefly in the Old Testament and the Talmud.
Beatitude The Beatitudes refer to the Christian ideals given by Jesus at the Sermon on the Mount. The term beatitude comes from the Latin noun beātitūdō which means "happiness".
Blessing This can refer to a special favour, mercy or gift given by God that can bring happiness. It can also refer to the action of someone who blesses or a short prayer spoken before meals and also known as grace.
