Age of Exploration Europeans wanted greater access to spices and other products of Asia, wanted to find sea routes to Asia since land routes were controlled by Muslims in Middle East, improvements in navigational technology made long sea voyages
Columbian Exchange The exchange of people, ideas, plants, animals, diseases, and technologies between the Old World .
Mercantilism An economic policy where nations try to gather as much gold and silver as possible, done by controlling trade and establishing colonies.
Colonization A bigger, more powerful country would take control of a smaller, weaker country.
Technological Innovation a new invention or idea.
Compass A navigational instrument that shows direction (north, south, east, west)
Astrolabe A tool used by navigators in the 1400s and 1500s to determine a ships position by charting the position of the stars
caravel A small, highly maneuverable three-masted ship used by the Portuguese and Spanish in the exploration of the Atlantic.
conquistador A Spanish soldier, explorer, conqueror of the Americas.
Circumnavigate to sail around the world
